The Algoma Makers Market's annual Holiday Market was a bustling celebration of local talent and entrepreneurship. Over the weekend, The Machine Shop was transformed into a vibrant hub, attracting hundreds of eager shoppers. The market showcased a diverse array of handmade crafts, from cozy winter wear like toques, mittens, and scarves to unique toys, jewelry, and more. Local food vendors, including Hogan’s Homestead and Cornucopia Gourmet Popcorn, added to the festive atmosphere. Meaghan Kent, a photographer, captured cherished family moments with her on-site portrait services. Visitors also enjoyed a free skate at The Rink at the Train Station, adding to the holiday cheer. Makayla Legge, the market's founder and a maker herself, shared her journey. She started with 15 vendors in a parking lot and has since grown to over 200 applications for the Christmas season alone. This year, 55 vendors participated, with 20 new ones joining the fray. Legge, a former nurse turned event manager, was inspired by the entrepreneurial spirit and the overwhelming demand for Christmas gifts. The market's popularity underscores the community's support for local businesses, offering a vibrant platform for artisans and entrepreneurs to thrive.
