Michael Patterson, a local businessman, is the visionary behind this project. He explains that bringing this idea to life wasn't easy, but he persevered through the challenges. The sauna, which opened on October 17, is accessible via a bridge constructed by Andrew Cairns, Mr. Patterson's business partner.
But here's where it gets interesting: some locals initially feared it would become a party hotspot, with concerns about alcohol consumption. Mr. Patterson assures that the focus is on wellness, not grog. He promotes 'contrast therapy,' an ancient practice of alternating hot and cold temperatures to boost circulation.
The sauna accommodates up to six people, with five being the ideal number. It's a social experience, but the emphasis is on relaxation and health. The sauna's opening was celebrated by Tourism North East CEO Bess Nolan-Cook and Bernard Gaffney, a former Indigo Shire deputy mayor and advocate for the project.
